Tasting notes
The 2020 Beaune Clos du Roi 1er Cru has an attractive, floral bouquet, touches of dried rose petals percolating through the redcurrant and wild strawberry aromas. There is more transparency here compared to other cuvées. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, fine acidity, quite cohesive with good weight. It is not the benchmark in terms of precision, but there is plenty of flavour here and it should age well in bottle. Closure: Diam

Chanson owns nearly 3 ha (ie 35% of the total climat area), two-thirds of which are planted with Pinot Noir. Cask sample. Pretty deep crimson. Rather gorgeous nose of raspberry juice and undergrowth. Lovely balance on the palate even if it’s all relatively forward. A mass of pleasure with fine tannins and sufficient acidity on the finish. Very successful for relatively early drinking. (JR)
