Tasting Notes
Moderate wood influence can be found on the super-fresh and bright essence of red berry fruit, newly turned earth and pretty floral aromas. There is good punch and focused power to the more robust flavors that also display enough wood to mention on the otherwise balanced and moderately austere finale. Drink 2029+

The 2021 Beaune Tuvilains 1er Cru has a perfumed, fairly floral bouquet with vibrant red fruit. More loamy scents percolate through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and slightly thicker tannins. The absence of whole bunches lends a bit more fruit purity on the smooth finish. Maybe it needs a bit more length, but that may develop during the second winter in barrel.
I thought the vinification might be all whole bunch and no sulphur, but it is not. What’s with the white pepper bouquet, then? It was very reductive in the fermentation vat and had to be aired repeatedly, but has cleaned up wonderfully over the last two months, thinks David. It is really quite smart, coming from a vineyard which does not often tickle my fancy.
