Tasting notes
Domaine Font de Courtedune’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape is 100% whole-bunch fermented in concrete vats and sees no new oak, allowing the purity of the fruit to shine through. Produced from vineyards neighbouring Rayas and with similar sandy soils, this is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape of real finesses and tenderness. Beautifully pure, baked strawberry fruit, red aniseed, cured meat and a touch of ferrous minerality makes for a seductive Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The texture is silky soft with refined, seamless tannins and a creamy texture. The fruit is slightly darker on the palate with rich baked cherry, dark chocolate and fresh strawberry. The alcohol and acidity are impressively integrated, giving the wine a very balanced mouth-feel. This is great-value for the quality here.

Virtually all Grenache from sandy sites, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape nevertheless lacks the intensely floral and complex aromas expected, revealing a more subdued countenance of black olives and black cherries. It's full-bodied and supple, turning silky on the finish.
I loved the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape, a pretty, nicely balanced, elegant 2020 offering lots of red and black fruits as well as some floral, rose, and garrigue-like nuances. With fine tannins, a supple, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length, it’s well worth seeking out. The blend is almost all Grenache, brought up all in concrete tanks
About the producer

Domaine Font de Courtedune – for now, at least – is something of an insider’s secret. With vineyards right next door to Ch. Rayas, and sharing the same sandy soils, this tiny Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate produces outstanding wines that are a fraction of the price of those of its famous neighbour.
