The 2009 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Wachstum Bodenstein is clear, deep, ripe and generous on the elegant and very slightly caramelly nose. Full-bodied and rich, this is a powerful and crystalline, very elegant Veltliner, it has a slightly bitter finish with much more tannin than the following vintages. This reminds me of Alsace Gewürztraminer from granite soils, not in terms of flavors but in richness, power and tannin structure. Tasted in Weissenkirchen/Wachau in September 2019.
