Score 89/100 · Drink 2023-2032, Neal Martin, Nov 2022

The 2018 Volnay Champans 1er Cru has quite a "punchy" nose with black fruit, fig and wild fennel scents, a bit over the top, yet still attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with a gritty textured entry. There is a slightly baked element to this Volnay with touches of burnt toast filtering through the black fruit on the finish. Not bad overall. Bottled under Diam 5. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
