From a north-facing site—rich in flint and clay—which requires careful handling, Julien's 2018 Aloxe-Corton Les Valozières unfurls to reveal notes of cherries, berries, burning embers and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, rich and enveloping, its lavish core of fruit is framed by melting tannins and ripe acids. This is a gourmand, pleasure-bent Aloxe-Corton that will drink well young.

Lifted, bright, ripe cranberry and vanilla, with a flinty undertow. Sappy, grainy tannins and a touch of finish bitterness. A little coarse. (TJ)
