Tasting notes
Like the 2013 in bottle, this was rather unexpectedly inexpressive. Juicy, fruity but not that subtle. (JR)

Marengo 2013 Barolo Riserva Brunate is a potent wine. There is plenty of brightness and energy, but whether or not the 2013 ever grows into a truly complete wine is an open question. As is often the case, the Riserva is decidedly pushed in style, which I am not sure the wine really needs or benefits from. Bright red cherry, plum, blood orange, chalk, spice and floral notes add striking nuance. Today, the Riserva is decidedly austere.
Aromas of dark fruit and hints of cinnamon and spices follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins with lovely freshness and focus at the finish. Very finely textured and subtly complex. Drink or hold.
