Tasting notes
The 2015 V is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot. The nose is ripe, generous and firm with inky essences that lift from the glass with oak spice and graphite aromas. Full-bodied, the palate is firm, showing tight tannins that will benefit from being paired with food. The wine ends with a spicy, mineral-driven, tannic edge. The wine spent 18 months in all-new French oak and then aged for an additional 48 months in bottle before release. 4,000 bottles were produced. Nicely done.

The 2015 Vergelegen V 1700 is a small selection of barrels that is shipped exclusively to New York. Blackberry and blueberry on the nose, this is quite floral with touches of dried violet coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity and well balanced with neatly integrated, cedary oak towards the sustained finish. Very fine.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Blackcurrant nose. But rich and lively. Michel Rolland approves of this blend (cf GVB). Medicinal. (JR)
