Made with 8 grams per liter dosage and disgorged in March of 2022, the 2014 Champagne La Grande Annee Rosé Brut pours a pale salmon hue and is floral with aromas of floral perfume and refined layers of fresh peach, cherry blossom, framboise, and almond croissant. Refreshing on the palate, it has a chalky texture and a long finish, with a tinge of bitter orange peel citrus that lifts on the back palate. This wonderful rosé is developing nicely, and I may like this one more now than I did last year. Drink 2024-2040. March 2022. Located in Aÿ, Bollinger was founded in 1829. This year, former cellarmaster Gilles Descôtes passed away after having stepped down from his position in 2022. Denis Bunner, who had worked as Descôtes’ assistant cellarmaster for the past ten years, has taken over the role of his longtime colleague. To mark the 200th anniversary of the house, they have several projects in the works scheduled for completion in 2029, not only to commemorate the occasion but to carry the house into their next chapter. Construction is underway to renovate the Maison Deuil, the long-time private residence on the property, into a 20-room hotel along with a restaurant, which is sure to significantly impact the tiny village. In September of 2023 they attained B Corp Certification, which focuses on social and environmental standards. A signature of the house is that they have their own cooperage on site to build and maintain their barrels. Gael Chaunut took over the position from Denis Saint Arroman as head cooper for the house in December of 2020. All the wood is sourced from their property in the forest of Cuis. As négociants, they purchase 60% their grapes and own 179 hectares of planted vineyards. Sixty percent of their production is dedicated to Pinot Noir, with 25% to Chardonnay and the remainder to Meunier. This year is the second-ever release for the La Côte Aux Enfants, which is the second single-parcel bottling from the house and completes the collection of Pinot Noir Champagnes alongside the PN Series and Vieilles Vignes Françaises. Stylistically, the Vieille Vignes Françaises remains the richest and most powerful wine in the range, with an emphasis on the concentration of its fruit from the ungrafted vines of Clos Saint Jacques.

Consisting of 63% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay, with 6% still wine from Côte Aux Enfants, the 2014 Champagne La Grande Année Brut Rosé is more expressive now and jumps out of the glass with fresh toasted brioche, apricot, wild raspberry, and orange custard. The palate is rounded and precise, with the spine and tension expressive of the cool vintage, followed by notes of golden orchard fruit, currant, and fresh salinity. This is showing well right now and is hard to resist, although it will certainly improve over the next 10 to 20 years. Disgorged March of 2022. Located in Ay, Bollinger was founded in 1829. The 2014 Rosé La Grande Année is airy, gracious and full of energy. Crushed rocks, white pepper, red berry, mint and blood orange lend striking aromatic intensity and presence. Finely cut and taut, the Rosé is a nervy Champagne that needs time to come together. The Rosé is blended from a base of the Blanc plus 5% still red Pinot from Bollinger’s Coteaux des Enfants vineyard in Aÿ. Perhaps because of its later disgorgement vis-à-vis the Blanc, the Rosé is a bit tight today. Disgorged: August, 2021. Dosage: 8 grams per liter.

Disgorged with eight grams per liter dosage, Bollinger's 2014 Brut La Grande Année Rosé wafts from the glass with aromas of tangerine oil, red berries, warm biscuits and English walnuts. Full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's a broad, vinous Champagne, with a deep core of fruit and racy acids, complemented by a delicate pinpoint mousse and concluding with delicate and enlivening phenolic grip on the finish.
