Tasting Notes
Domaine René Bouvier, now in the hands of Bernard Bouvier, is an address to watch. The Marsannay grower is crafting some wonderfully elegant yet concentrated wines that offer great value. The 2019 vintage was the first year for him in En la Rue de Vergy, a village site of impeccable pedigree – surrounded by Morey-Saint-Denis’s most illustrious Grands Crus, Clos des Lambrays, Clos de Tart and Bonnes-Mares – and on the border with Chambolle-Musigny. From half a hectare of old vines (45 years in age), he has crafted a wine of great balance – one which punches well above its village weight. There’s a gorgeous purity to the nose – with an exhilaratingly bright blend of bramble and sweet red berry fruit, lifted by exotic spice notes. On the palate, it’s mouth-wateringly fresh, with a saline edge to the seamlessly ripe fruit that fills the finish. Vibrant and moreish, this has the balance, concentration and structure to evolve over a decade or more.

Interesting personality to the nose, recognisably Bernard Bouvier’s style but with a lifted element. Sweetly pleasing with a delicious light orange blossom aspect, and a less thick texture, more refinement. Surprising depth behind. Tasted: January 2021
About the producer

Domaine René Bouvier is a truly exciting estate in Marsannay – and one of a handful of properties bringing greater attention to a village once best known for its rosé.
