Score 92/100 · Drink 2026-2042, Neal Martin, Sep 2024

The 2020 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru has a pastille-like purity on the nose, with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit. Fine mineralité emerges with time in the glass. There is just a bit of oak to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with attractive raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, fine tannins and well-judged acidity. It's tightly coiled on a finish that perhaps doesn't quite deliver that knockout blow that would merit this Corton a higher score. But this is well-crafted. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru contains 100% whole bunch this year. I appreciate the aromatics here - well-defined, fragrant and quite floral, there offers fine mineralité and tension. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very harmonious with a bead of acidity that lends finesse and elegant towads the finish. This is clever winemaking and a successful Corton. Excellent.
