The textural finesse to all of Domaine Georges Noëllat’s wines in 2020 is outstanding – so fine, elegant and finishing with lightly bitter, saline-tinted notes that leave the palate salivating. Les Beaux Monts did this in spades. The aromatics are lifted with ripe blueberry fruit, violets, rose and dried spice aromas. This almost has a Bonnes-Mares-like density, concentration and ripeness to the palate – but it is not at all over-ripe, with loads of acidity to match. This is mouth-filling and beautifully balanced.

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru takes a few swirls of the glass to cohere, gaining intensity, pure black cherries and hints of blueberry. It becomes floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red berry fruit, fine acidity, taut and fresh, with edgy tannins. I appreciate the energy in this young Vosne-Romanée. It's not dazzling in length, but there is backbone and grip in tandem with elegance. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a distinctly marine-driven bouquet with shucked oyster shells permeating the black cherry and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, poise and mineralité in abundance. Maxime Chuerlin rates this above his Echézeaux. I am not going to argue.
About the producer
Domaine Georges Noëllat, based in the village of Vosne-Romanée is today run by Maxime Cheurlin. Cheurlin took over the domaine in 2010 – aged just 20 – and has since transformed its reputation as one of the finest Burgundy wine producers.
