Tasting notes
Montée de Tonnerre is consistently one of the top performing Premiers Crus in Chablis, situated alongside the Grands Crus on Chablis’s warmer Right Bank. Jadot’s Chablis Montée de Tonnerre in 2020 is a great success, a beautifully well-made wine with exceptional balance. The nose is cool, pure, mineral and fresh with classic Chablis scents, and a discreet touch of oak. The palate is round, energetic and offers wonderful tension. A mixture of acidity and bitterness on the mid-palate combines with elegant flavours of white fruit, creating a silky mouth-feel. The finish is ripe but elegant, refined, long and savoury. This is top-drawer Premier Cru Chablis.

The 2020 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru, 50% aged in 400-litre oak barrels, has a clean and precise bouquet, light granite and flinty notes with cooking apple and grass clippings. I would like just a little more vigour. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, moderate weight, a fine saline element with a subtle oyster shell tang on the finish. Pretty, though it just needs a little more grip. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.
About the producer

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
