The 2019 L'Hêtre lacks a little cohesion on the nose, slightly minty black fruit laced with cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins. Maybe this suffers a little over-extraction, though I appreciate the spicy finish and peppery aftertaste. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Deeper colour than most. Intense, rather intriguing nose. Lots going on here in this very youthful wine with masses of tannin but (just) enough ripe fruit too. I think it will get there but is more youthful than its peers. (JR)

About the producer

L'Hêtre
L’Hetre

Jacques Thienpont – owner of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, Le Pin – fell in love with the view from L’Hêtre when he first visited the property. He purchased the Côtes de Castillon estate, which offers a brilliant introduction to the Thienpont stable at an affordable pricepoint.
