As I wrote earlier this year, Faiveley's 2019 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Myglands is a success, delivering aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, espresso roast and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it's a heartier, more muscular wine than the ethereal Framboisière.

Lovely black fruit with some wet earth and black mushrooms, following through to a full-bodied palate with a gorgeous core of ripe-berry flavors and soft, savory texture. Velvety. Drink or hold.

(a monopole of Domaine Faiveley). This had just been bottled yet was still showing well with its nose of dark currant, raspberry and earth-scented nose. There is very good energy and delineation to the attractively textured middle weight flavors that conclude in a saline and bitter cherry pit-inflected finale where a hint of warmth gradually emerges. This delicious effort should drink well early on yet repay a few years of cellaring too. 88/2024+

The 2019 Mercurey Clos des Myglands 1er Cru, from the 6.31-hectare monopole , has a bright nose of red currant and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannins, but there is freshness and focus on the finish.
