The 2018 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru was vinified and matured in 3- to 5-year-old barrels for 12 months. This is far more backward than the Valmur and demands more coaxing, eventually revealing scents of citrus fruit that mingle with white chocolate and subtle smoky scents. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and just the right amount of salinity, though Dampt’s Valmur shows more length, whereas this just cuts away abruptly. Not bad, but it needs to show more complexity.

Lovely spicy and open aroma. Firmly textured but lacks freshness – not sure how it will age so my dates are conservative. (JH)
