2017 Mullineux Iron Syrah

Tasting notes
Not yet released, the broad and expressive 2017 Iron Syrah has opulent black fruit, cracked peppercorn and red minerality. The palate is more accessible now compared to the 2016 vintage of the same bottling, which will need time to come around. The 2017 is excellent and has a complex nature to the palate, expressing well for a full-bodied wine. The finish is long, contemplative and ends on a good, round tannic note. The Syrah range from Mullineux has always expressed the terroir from which they spring.

About the producer

Chris and Andrea Mullineux were at the forefront of South Africa’s new-wave movement and are now one of the country’s most established names. Alongside the Swartland project that made their name, they make wines in Franschhoek under the Leeu Passant name – a tribute to South Africa’s vinous past.
