(this wine from young vines was done almost entirely in stainless steel): Bright light yellow. Very ripe but fresh aromas of apple, orange oil, spices and nuts. At once thick and juicy, with enticing ripe soft citrus flavors supported by surprising lemony acidity and chalky minerality. A bit aggressive in the style of the vintage but with sound buffering extract. A serious mouthful of wine with a late hint of briney olive.

Coming mainly from young vines on chalky limestone soils, the maiden 2015 Macon la Roche Vineuse is the biggest volume cuvée for Olivier Merlin. It has a clean and fresh bouquet, with apple blossom and light orange rind aromas that gradually unfold in the glass. The palate is well balanced with quite a sharp, pointed, bitter lemon entry, moderate weight in the mouth with a feisty, quite spicy finish and a long aftertaste. Very fine.
