Opening with a classic, cooler-climate expression of Cabernet, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has noticeable notes of green bell pepper, sage and thyme on the nose along with expressions of dusty red fruits, black cherry skin, dusty plum, redcurrants and sweet tobacco. The food-friendly, medium to full-bodied wine offers up energetic acidity with dusty tannins in the mouth. It ends with a delightful balance of herbaceous character, dusty red fruit and building oak spice on the lingering finish; I see its aging potential. For those who are averse to pyrazines, this is not for you. The wine spent 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 45% were new. 36,000 bottles produced.

18 months in French oak. Much, much more savoury than most – bravo! Luscious texture and no shortage of tannins and interest. Really well made and, presumably, grown, with a tingle on the finish. Very accomplished. (JR)

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, which saw 50% new oak, has a straightforward tobacco and sous-bois bouquet that is quite Médoc-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin and grippy in the mouth, and the simple, slightly abrupt finish needs to find more complexity and nuance.
