Tasting notes
Olivier Merlin is one of the most talented winemakers in Pouilly Fuisse. He is most famous for his Clos de Quartz monopole, with this being the first time La Roche has been bottled as a single vineyard; in typical Merlin style, this is very serious white Burgundy which makes a mockery of its price tag. Neal Martin is also a fan of what Merlin is achieving and has praised the meticulous attention to detail and no expense spared attitude, which includes only selecting the best barrels for bottling and discarding the rest. This clearly has a direct positive impact on the wine and means that the buyer is left with something really quite special, without breaking the bank. Lemon colour, classic Fuisse nose, full of tropical fruit with hints of vanilla and sweet spices. On the palate there is concentration of apricot and peach, a real creaminess and well balanced acidity with impressive concentration. The finish is rich and long with plenty of lingering fruit matched with a subtle, underlying herbiness. Classic Fuisse, drinking very well with a good 5+ years ahead
