Tasting notes
This complexity of this is really something, offering brioche, blanched cashews, flint and fresh flowers on the nose. Iodine, too. Such purity here. Full-bodied with a tight and pinpointed palate. Salty and spicy. Light phenolics. Superb intensity and persistence. Takes off! Drink or hold.

Tasted blind in a comparison of champagne and English sparkling wine. 100% Chardonnay. Warm, broad nose – very un-English! Positively rich on the palate with a very fine bead. Perhaps not one of the most refreshing in this selection but it would go well with maybe a fish dish. Very distinctive. (JR)

The 2012 Brut Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons is just as impressive as it was earlier this year, although it appears to have shut down a touch since then. That is not a problem, though, as readers should not be thinking of opening a bottle anytime soon. Bright, creamy and explosive, the 2012 packs a serious punch. It is also painfully austere and in need of cellaring. Readers who can find the 2012 should not hesitate, as it is truly special. Dosage is 4.7 grams per liter. Disgorged: January, 2019.
