The 2017 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru was showing brilliantly, blossoming in the glass with scents of pear, white currants, crisp green apple, dried white flowers and a subtle framing of new oak. Full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, for all this wine's texture it is its racy acidity and compelling sense of energy that lend it its distinction. This is a concentrated, beautifully balanced Bienvenues that is well worth seeking out.

(two barrels made in 2017, vs. just one in 2016): Bright, pale, green-tinged color. A note of noble reduction to the aromas of lime, lemon and white pepper. A rich, sappy wine with lovely sucrosité to its citrus and stone fruit flavors. Conveys an impression of lower acidity and less tension than the Quintessence de Corton-Charlemagne but spreads out impressively to dust the palate on the sexy mounting finish. Not a particularly penetrating wine but it should give early pleasure due to its balance and fruit sweetness.
