Tasting notes
Opaque ruby. Powerful, spice-accented red berries, cherry pit and candied flowers on the highly perfumed nose. Juicy black raspberry, bitter cherry and lavender pastille flavors are sharpened and given focus by a suggestion of zesty acidity. Clings with strong intensity on an appealingly sweet, expansive finish given shape and gentle grip by fine-grained tannins.

The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Lieu dit Pignan is mostly Grenache (there’s 25% Mourvèdre) sourced from one of the great terroirs in the appellation. It is scheduled to be bottled in August of this year. This inky colored beauty gives up a primordial bouquet of blueberries, cassis, violets, lavender, and honeysuckle. Deep, full-bodied, and incredibly pure, with a mountain of baby fat, this awesome effort is going to take 5-7 years to shed some fruit and show nuance, but it's a brilliant effort.
