The finest wine I’ve ever tasted from this estate, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale des Comtes de Courten is a sensational blend of equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre, all from the Colombis lieu-dit, that was completely destemmed and aged in concrete tanks and demi-muids. About as ripe and sexy as it gets, yet never over the top, it offers a massive blast of blackberry fruit, new leather, spice, and garrigue that changes beautifully in the glass and it picks up more nori and seaweed characteristics with time in the glass. This full-bodied, opulent, and yet still elegant beauty has fine tannin and a finish that goes on for over a minute. Don’t miss it!

Aged entirely in new barriques, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Speciale des Comtes de Courten is a 50-50 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre this vintage. Cedar notes accent ripe cherries in this full-bodied, velvety wine and then pick more savory elements on the finish, adding notes of cola-spice and anise.
