Tasting notes
(100% destemmed; La Riotte is adjacent to Les Blanchards but these vines are on more of a slope, and the mostly clay soil also features some rocky calcaire ): Healthy medium red. More complex on the nose than the Blanchards, with raspberry and musky coffee aromas complemented by sexy soil tones and a floral element. Less fat and dense than the Blanchards, but its sappy raspberry fruit shows lovely mineral tension. Finishes precise, cool and long.

The 2016 Morey St Denis 1er Cru la Riotte was completely destemmed and matured in 25% new oak. It has a perfumed, floral bouquet with rose petal and iris infusing the red berry fruit, more blue fruit emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin, quite compact and linear, conservative perhaps when compared to Lignier's other premier crus, although there is satisfying length. It just feels a little correct at the moment when you just want it to loosen its tie.
Pale crimson. Light nose but very appealing with subtle elegance. Very delicate. Pure burgundy. Long. Very vibrant. (JR)
