Tasting notes
An absolute blockbuster of a wine ranking with the finest Gigondas I've tasted, the 2007 Gigondas Prestige Des Hautes Garrigues is still youthful, revealing a ruby hue with no signs of bricking at the edge. Incredible notes of red and black currants, roasted herbs, jus de viande, white pepper, cedar, and charcuterie all develop with time in the glass, and it's full-bodied, with a rich, concentrated, mouth-filling mid-palate, still present tannins, and a thrilling finish. The blend is 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah and Cinsault, brought up in a mix of tank and small barrels. It's a magical Gigondas I wish every reader could taste. Hats off to the genius of Yves Gras!

Inky colored and still a monster of a wine that has a wealth of fruit and texture, the 2007 Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues is locked and loaded with notions of smoked meats, ripe currants, black raspberries, singed garrigue and chocolate. Still youthful and vibrant, with its oak elevage absolutely covered by a wealth of fruit, it has awesome purity, ripe tannin and a finish that just won't quit. Count yourself lucky if you have any of this in the cellar.
80% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah Full and round and full-on turbo charged stuff – almost essence of Gigondas. Certainly very dry on the finish. But lots of richness too. Perfect for an igloo! (JR)
