The 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape checks in as a blend of 70% Grenache and 15% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre brought up in a mix of stainless steel and tronconique tanks. It offers a classic, old-school style in its peppery herbs, ripe dark fruits, garrigue and earthy bouquet. This gives way to a charming, balanced, delicious red that has moderate tannin and a clean finish.

Blended from eight separate parcels, the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is a forward, supple, lush wine that's already approachable. Cherries and stone fruit appear upfront and on the mid-palate, while hints of spice mark the finish. This classic blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre should drink well for another decade.

Reasonably subtle nose but there is much more generosity of fruit on the palate. Full-bodied and soft, with a finish that could use just a little more bite, on balance. (RH)

pH 3.77, TA 2.95 g/l. 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah. Destemmed. Vinified in stainless steel (50%) and tronconic vats (50%). Aged in foudre (10%), demi-muid (20%), used barrels (5%), stainless steel (5%), and tronconic vats (60%). Tasted blind. Mid crimson with a fairly pale rim. Smudgy nose – indistinct. Bright, sweet cherry fruit. Lots of charm and ambition. Needs time for the tannins to soften but it’s serious stuff. Long. (JR)
