Clean, clear and lemon flecked in the glass. On the nose, delicate lemon rind and citrus fruit aromas that lead to a saline, marine quality. Beautifully judged on the palate, powerful fruit and gorgeous extract balanced by cool, crisp and sophisticated minerality. Distinctive flavour profile. It leans heavily on elegance as a quality marker but lines of smoked bran, wheat, nectarine and sweet pear-like flavour bring both savouriness and fruitiness to the table. Everything here feels fresh-faced and limpid. Jul 2016, www.winecompanion.com.au
A vibrant wine of great depth and purity, the 2015 Cloudburst Chardonnay has a mineral intensity and effortless length that resonates and captivates. This is a powerfully delicious wine, with gorgeous complexity and outstanding balance. A concentrated honeyed marzipan confection melded with dark peach, acorn, roasted chestnuts, peanut skin, river stone, brioche, butterscotch and Meyer lemon curd.
Medium to light yellow hue, with more colour than the two prior vintages, and a touch of sulfide reduction on the bouquet - a good touch of matchstick. The wine is soft on the palate, pillowy-textured and rounded, smooth and satiny, with medium length. Very good, although it doesn't seem to have the drive and vigour of the 2014 vintage. Cloudburst is a boutique Margaret River winery whose rise to fame has been nothing short of meteoric. Winemaker-founder Will Berliner released the first vintage of Cloudburst in 2010 to great critical acclaim; his wines are now to be found in the cellars of some of the world’s greatest restaurants.
