The 2016 Pichon Baron is very precise on the nose, mainly black fruit with a touch of cassis and violet, warm brick and light leather scents tucked underneath. Beautiful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, framed by fine tannins, classical in style, nothing out of place, one of the most effortless wines in the flight with a very persistent finish. Bordeaux claret from the top drawer. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

A perfumed and refined nose of black currants, herbs, walnuts and an earthy touch. Vibrant, fresh and full of energy, starting to come together, with expansive, polished tannins integrated into the fruit. Beginning to open and already seductive, yet it has a long life ahead. The exact kind of vintage that you come to Pichon Baron for - muscular, concentrated, graphite, cocoa bean, Pauillac signature, a ton of lift and grip, approaching lift off but with decades ahead, easy to recommend. 80% new oak.
Rich, sweet and youthful. Round fruit with a sight impression of char on the end. Pleasure to come. (JR)
