Tasting notes
Such a beautifully aged gran reserva that shows the more traditional side of Rioja. Dried blood orange peel, white pepper, dried thyme, iron, berries, minerals, black sesame seeds and old books. So bright and firm, with a full body and an extremely bright, lengthy finish. If I bought a bottle I’d still want to keep it for another few years. Drink or hold.

Deep reddish garnet. Beautifully complex aromas: leather and undergrowth and yet still there is red fruit. A miracle. Silky and refined. Leathery, dry but there's no dryness on the finish. So complex. They will soon be moving on to the 2005.
(aged for six years in American oak barrels) Deep red. Exotic, oak-spiced red berry liqueur, dried cherry and vanilla aromas are complemented by a smoky overtone. Sweet and pliant in the mouth, displaying a velvety texture to the plush black raspberry, cherry-vanilla and coconut flavors. Shows no rough edges and picks up a suave floral note with air, finishing with excellent clarity, a hint of allspice and round, harmonious tannins.
Beautifully elegant with fresh, slightly sappy, juicy cherry fruit and some plum and damson notes. Leather, herb, spice and earth notes too. Juicy and taut with a lovely poise and balance between the sweet cherry and plum fruit and the savoury, spicy, slightly earthy characters. There are also some iodine, cedar and vanilla notes. Has some distance to go but already delicious now. Some lemony acid on the finish.
