Tasting notes
Moving to the 2015s, the classic 2015 Gigondas offers a charming, elegant, yet nicely textured personality to go with lots of black raspberries, spice, incense and dried flower aromas and flavors. It’s a beautiful, classic Gigondas that has sweet tannin and a decade or more of prime drinking. The blend is 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre and the balance Cinsault, mostly destemmed and aged in a mix of foudre, barrels, and tank. Under the helm of the young Julien Brechet, with aid from omnipresent Philippe Cambie, Domaine des Bosquets has quickly risen into the top handful of estates in Gigondas, as well as in all of the Southern Rhône. The 2015s shine for their purity and finesse, but the 2016s have everything you could want in wine. You can’t go wrong with any of these.

Vivid ruby. Highly perfumed red fruit, potpourri and peppery spice scents show very good clarity. Sappy and precise on the palate, offering sweet raspberry and floral pastille flavors and a hint of spicecake. Closes on a smoky mineral note, displaying silky tannins and strong, floral-driven persistence.
Looking at the classic cuvee, the 2015 Gigondas is a wine that readers should buy by the case. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the balance Mourvèdre and Cinsault, it offers up gorgeous notes of black raspberry, fruit tart, spice and incense in a medium to full-bodied, ultra pure, seamless style that just begs to be drunk. It will keep for over a decade.
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre, 3% Cinsault. Vinified in stainless steel. Matured for 12 months in various sized oak vessels for the Syrah, concrete tank for the Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. After blending, the wine will mature a further six months in concrete tanks before bottling. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Slightly grey crimson. Very ripe indeed and then some leathery tannins. So sweet! Not quite fresh enough for my taste. Falls away a little on the end. (JR)
