Shiny, nicely full red robe. The bouquet is neat, carries attractive black berry and black cherry fruit with on the money sweetness to enhance it, and a note of licorice and tarriness. The palate is enjoyably fluid, with stylish black fruit running its course. The finish brings in salted, mild tannins. This sings a quiet song, has a relaxed style, is easy to appreciate. It will show well quite soon – from spring 2018. Sep 2016, www.drinkrhone.com
Vivid ruby. Lively, sharply focused red berry, floral pastille and Asian spice scents, along with suggestions of garrigue and smoky minerals. Sweet, focused and seamless in texture, offering intense raspberry, spicecake and lavender flavors that deepen slowly on the back half. Clings with real authority on the subtly tannic finish, leaving a suave floral note behind. This is an outstanding example of a "basic" Châteauneuf. Mar 2017, www.vinous.com
