Deep garnet colour. Gorgeously mature, furniture-polish aromas. There's a lot of funkiness here, and if you're a clean-freak this might be too 'complex' – however, it has the same kind of mature expression of a respectable bordeaux or southern rhône. (RH)

A polished, textural and earthy blend of 79% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot, 6% cabernet franc, 2% malbec, 2% pinot noir and 4% of other rare varieties. On the nose it shows aromas of forest berries, dried herbs, bark, forest floor and hints of mushrooms. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Refined layered and velvety texture. Delicious residue of fruit to the secondary aromas and earthy edge. Peppery finish. Drink or hold.

Ripe black currant, crushed flowers, cedar wood and leafy nuances introduce the 2015 Rouge. Lemongrass adds a refreshing layer. Albeit sufficiently concentrated, the medium-bodied 2015 shows a subtle yet noticeable rustic element. I’m curious to see how this one develops, but for now, I'm putting my money on the standout 2016.

The 2015 Cuvée Émile Peynaud, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is sensational. Rich, deep and explosive, the 2015 possesses off the charts intensity as it opens in the glass. Inky dark fruit, licorice, menthol, spice and lavender infuse the 2015 with tremendous textural richness. The 2015 is a dazzling wine by any measure. It is one of the most impressive wines I have tasted in 2020, from any region. Wow!
