The 2015 Chevalier-Montrachet Clos des Chevaliers Grand Cru has an intense, classy bouquet of dried honey, chalk, smoke and a hint of slate. This is captivating stuff. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and extremely nuanced, with a gentle crescendo. The finish shimmers with tension and there is enormous length. Très Grand Cru! Jean-Michel Chartron has conjured a stunner here. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Tasted blind, Jean-Michel Chartron's 2015 Chevalier-Montrachet Clos des Chevaliers Grand Cru put in a brilliant showing, unfurling in the glass with a classy bouquet of green apple, citrus oil and crushed chalk, subtly framed by a judicious touch of new oak and smoky reduction. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and layered, with a satiny attack, fabulous concentration and intensity and racy balancing acids. This is a brilliant Chevalier-Montrachet that ranks as one of the white wines of the vintage.

The 2015 Chevalier-Montrachet Clos des Chevaliers Grand Cru, picked on 2 September, matured in one-third new oak this year, is the pick of Jean Chatron's wines this year even though it was showing just a touch of reduction on the nose. However, underneath lies attractive wet stone aromas, complemented by honeysuckle and jasmine. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a keen line of acidity, vibrant and energetic with wonderful harmony on the tender finish. It does not quite possess the drive of the 2014 due to the growing season, but for me this is my pick from Chartron in 2015. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2019-2033
