Tasting notes
(from a 1.16 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines; there are two sections, one upper and one lower and this cuvée now uses only the upper portion). This is spicier still with its array of anise, soy and hoisin along with floral hints that include violet and rose petal adding breadth to the dark berry fruit scents. There is excellent delineation to the tension-filled and markedly stony flavors that possess a silky mouth feel thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the long, balanced and beautifully refined finale. The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées, which comes from Premaux's limestone-based, south-facing soils, was showing just a touch of reduction on the nose, although underneath lies attractive raspberry, black cherry and wild hedgerow aromas, neat and tidy with fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit, structured and a touch broody at first, albeit with the depth and body one expects from this vineyard. There are hints of brown spice towards the finish as its gently fans out, though I would just more lightness, more red fruit character to develop and beckon me back to my glass. Tasted blind, the 2015 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Brulees also put in a superb performance, unfurling in the glass with an attractive bouquet of ripe red berries, incense and candied peel, framed by a touch of light reduction that segues into sapid bass notes of smoked duck. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, lavish and multidimensional, with supple tannins, a dramatic core of fruit and succulent underlying acids. This is a very promising Brulees from Domaine d'Eugenie. Oct 2018, www.robertparker.com
