(TG on the label): Bright medium red. Good verve to the aromas of strawberry syrup and sweet, spicy oak. A silky, creamy-sweet fruit bomb in the mouth; generous and accessible right now. Finishes with plenty of dusty tannins and an energizing element of menthol. This fruit was entirely destemmed due to hail just before the flowering.

The 2009 Morey St. Denis Tres Girard is the most complete of these village level Burgundies. It shows gorgeous freshness in its dark fruit, violets, sweet herbs and minerals. Silky tannins run through the fresh, vibrant finish. Tasted from barrel. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. Cecile Tremblay is one of Burgundy’s emerging young growers. I was very impressed with all of the wines I tasted. Tremblay farms four hectares of vineyards across eleven appellations. She favors lengthy macerations (the 2009s spent 30 days on the skins) with no chaptalization or acidification. The percentage of whole clusters varies from wine to wine and can reach 100% at the grand cru level. The wines stay on the lees with no racking until they are prepared for bottling. New oak ranges from 20% for the village wines to 70% for the Grand Crus. These are striking wines, but there is every reason to believe the best is yet to come from this small, high-quality domaine. Good full, deep red. Very ripe aromas of strawberry, raspberry, sexy oak, musky herbs, milk chocolate and coffee, plus a whiff of white peach. Deeper and more concentrated than the village Chambolle, with a musky brown spice quality carrying through to the slightly dry finish.
