Tasting notes
This represents a step up in terms of clarity, polish and nuance vis-à-vis other Rieslings in Bodenstein’s current lineup, and while that might come at the expense of some concentration or grip, the results reflect Achleiten vineyard’s consummate potential for alluring complexity. Notes of heliotrope and freesia on the nose translate into seductive inner-mouth perfume that accompanies succulent ripe white peach and honeydew melon on a glossy, polished palate. An infusion of cooling basil and mint as well as smoky black tea, hints of almond extract and an undertone of wet stone enhance the richness of a soothing, enveloping, lusciously juicy finish.

The 2015 Riesling Smaragd Achleiten displays a pure and mineral bouquet of crushed stones and white-peach aromas. Intense and fruity on the palate, with good concentration and densely woven texture, this is a piquant and spicy flavored Riesling with great intensity and ripeness.
The deep and elegant, intensely colored 2015 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Achleiten offers both a perfectly ripe fruit along with herbal and floral flavors and crushed gneiss. Full-bodied, round, intense and highly elegant, this is a concentrated and powerful Veltliner with a dense and intense fruit. You can drink it now, but this would be a waste of talent. This is a spectacular wine with a piquant acidity and a very ripe and intense, but still precise, fruit and a dominating mineral bass line. The wine has a very good tannin grip, too.
