(from two parcels in Brochon): Bright medium red. Aromas of black fruits, licorice and leather. Juicy, spicy and round, offering agreeable dark fruit and game flavors. This ripe, sweet wine has 12.7% natural alcohol, from old vines that are always picked at the beginning of the harvest.

(vinified with one-third whole clusters): Healthy deep red. Musky, reduced aromas of black raspberry and coffee. Fat but a bit youthfully stunted, offering a chocolatey richness as well as a lightly herbal stem character to the dark berry and saline flavors. Finishes with dusty tannins and obvious oaky torrefaction.
The 2014 Côtes de Nuits Villages was the first to be harvested on September 18 and includes 30% whole bunch fruit. It has an open red berry and blueberry fruit, a touch of melted tar just underneath. The palate is juicy and ripe on the entry, roundness already here although the oak just shaves away some of the definition on the finish. Give this 3-4 years in bottle if you can.
When tasted on 9 November it had been in tank for three weeks. From Brochon. A little reduced. Firm and spicy. Rich and gamey. (JR)
