Tasted blind. Very sweet barley-sugar nose. Light botrytis influence. Very sweet indeed! Dentist’s nightmare. (JR)

The Lur-Saluces family’s own estate. Bought in Paris for €47 a half! RS 153 g/l. Tasted blind. Toasted, honeyed nose with a hint of something burnt – crème caramel? – followed by fine acidity. A really good Sauternes? Extremely long and emphatic. Excellent, refreshing but luscious wine. (JR)

The 2015 de Fargues feels a little reduced on the nose at the moment, although it seems clean and pure underneath that SO2, with honeycomb and crème brûlée notes emerging with time. The palate is fresh and well balanced with quite a high-toned entry, lively orange zest and marmalade notes with veins of quince jam toward the finish. This Sauternes improves in the glass and has great potential. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Tasted blind. Massive and creamy and hedonistic – Climens style. Toasty finish and utterly glorious. Long and so purely hedonistic. This is like a tincture of pear juice. (JR)

About the producer

GP-accueil
de Fargues

Owned by the Lur-Saluces family (which also previously owned Ch. d’Yquem) since 1472, Ch. de Fargues benefited from similar care and attention. The resulting wines are impressive and – unlike most in the region which are now offered en primeur – only released three years after the vintage.
