Tasting notes
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is racy, silky and perfumed, with plenty of the lift that gives the wines from this St. Helena site so much of their distinctive character. Sweet red cherry and raspberry jam, wild flowers, mocha, spice and white chocolate open up in the glass. Open-knit, silky and radiant, with striking lushness, the 2015 will drink well pretty much upon release.

Made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep purple-black colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard opens with seriously earthy notions of tilled black soil, mossy tree bark, morels and wet pebbles over a black-fruited core of cassis, freshly crushed blackberries and warm plums plus touches of unsmoked cigars and fallen leaves. Full-bodied and packed to the gills with complex mineral, earth and black fruit layers, it has a rock-solid structure of firm, ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long with a provocative spiciness coming through.

Another blockbuster, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is certainly up with the crème de la crème from the region. From an incredible vineyard just outside the town of St. Helena that was replanted in 1998, and made entirely from clone 337 aged in 90% new French oak, it offers a sensational bouquet of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and chocolate that develops beautifully with time in the glass. It's a rich, powerful wine that never seems over the top and has perfect balance, polished tannin, and a great, great finish. This is a sensational Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that's dead ringer for a great vintage of La Mission Haut Brion! It needs bottle age, but don't miss this beauty.
