Tasting notes
(these vines were part of Lafon's original purchase; bottled in September; the only one of these wines done entirely in demi-muids ): Bright lemon-yellow. Ripe peach and brown spice aromas are currently muted by the smoky reduction that's typical for this bottling. Strong lemony acidity (five grams per liter, according to Gon) gives cut and shape to the wine's silky, thick texture. Tactile, concentrated, structured wine with a very long, chewy, reverberating finish. The yield here is always around 40 hectoliters per hectare, according to Gon, who added that this wine is less marked by vintage variation than the estate's other cuvées . In a rather virile style but with no shortage of elegance.

‘A bit like Perrières is in Meursault: great wine but less easy. Needs an occasion.’ Relatively light nose. But lots of interesting minerally stuff underneath. Real weight. But not sweet. (JR)
