Bright, dark red-ruby. Reduced aromas of cherry, raspberry and flinty minerality. Utterly suave and weightless in the mouth, conveying outstanding lift and punch to the flavors of red cherry, raspberry and flowers. Ripe tannins spread out to saturate the entire palate. There's a peppery element here that I did not find in the 2014, and it energizes the mid-palate while giving added grip to the long, vibrant finish. Still very closed, this wine may well merit an even higher score a decade down the road.

Bright, dark red. Expressive, ripe aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, crème brûlée and minerals; this smells like a dessert. Creamy in the middle but with a refreshing edge of acidity and attractive violet lift. A bit youthfully disjointed today, this wine will need significant aging to harmonize its acids and tannins. But holds out terrific potential.
The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Brûlées has what you might describe as a “steadfast” bouquet, perhaps just a little conservative and constrained at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth, red cherries, strawberry pastilles and a pinch of spice lending the finish personality and length. It will probably demand 4-5 years in bottle before it starts to reach its drinking plateau, but it will be worth the wait.
