Tasting notes
I hadn't tasted the 2009 Viré-Clessé Cuvée E. J. Thevenet for a couple of years, and it's showing brilliantly. Bursting with aromas of honeyed peaches, apple blossom and pear mingled with subtle hints of saffron and mandarin, it's full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a sweet core of fruit, lively acids and a broad, expansive finish. It's really entering its drinking window.

Magnum. Low stock. Broad and ripe and ready. Lots of pleasure in a juicy white peach and passion fruit way. Massively pleasurable! (JR)
Pale, bright, gold-tinged yellow. Full of life yet youthfully inexpressive on the nose, hinting at dried fruits, grapefruit, menthol and toasted biscuit; this very rich wine seems to be shutting down today. (Gautier Thévenet told me he's finishing selling this wine now but will probably wait another five years to drink it.). The palate shows very ripe fruits along with smoke and saline nuances, with a hint of marzipan suggesting some evolution. Very rich but edgy wine, perhaps passing through an awkward stage today.
