Some forest-floor and black-tea notes, with dried cherry. A little hollow on the mid palate, with plenty of tannins still there. Long and perfumed, but that hollowing-out is a little concerning. (TJ)

The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus certainly surpassed my expectations. The bouquet is quite precocious for an apparent off vintage with bundles of raspberry and blackberry scents, much more floral than I recall from barrel. The palate has a seductive “ rondeur ”, well judged acidity, plump in the mouth with a fine-boned finish. This is well worth seeking out. Tasted at dinner at Grand Cru in Moscow.

Medium red. Aromas of cherry and strawberry complicated by smoke, meat and earth. Sweeter and finer-grained than the Clos de la Mousse, with its red fruit and soil elements in harmony from the outset. Slightly lower acidity and riper tannins give this wine early accessibility. Finishes with plenty of dusty tannins but has the generosity of texture to support them.

Mid crimson. Red-fruited and a little spicy. Juicy, lively, dryish on the finish. I can't see this having a long life but burgundy can surprise. (JH)
