The 2013 Morey-Saint-Denis en la Rue de Vergy has a forward nose with red berry fruit, leather, damp undergrowth and a touch of wild mint. It coalesces nicely in the glass, though it is a bit rustic. The palate is medium-bodied with a little chewiness on the entry, good weight and gentle grip. Still, the finish is missing nuance and complexity compared to Lignier's recent vintages that occupy higher quality levels.

The 2013 Morey Saint Denis en la Rue de Vergy includes 30% whole-cluster fruit. It has a very expressive bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, fine mineralité and a hint of blood orange lending freshness and vitality. The palate is sweet on the entry with fleshy ripe red berry fruit that belie the structure underneath. It needs to develop more cohesion, though three or four years in bottle ought to knit this together.
Reasonable intensity on the nose with some ripe fruit. And some of that electric coffee character that characterises Morey. Impressively long. A pretty good bet. (JR)
