Pale, bright yellow. A note of meaty reduction to the aromas of crushed stone, white pepper and smoke. Densely packed, smooth and refined, showing lovely freshness and lift to its intense stone fruit and floral flavors. Finishes very long and suave, with an impression of fine-grained tannins and terrific lift.

Smells both creamy and bright fruited. As the other Bouchard whites, this is pretty light on the palate but here there is greater persistence. Crisp, juicy but not really grand cru material and not for the long term. (JH)

The 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a crisp, limestone, mint-scented bouquet that is very nuanced, but gains intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a taut line of acidity, hints of white peach and orange zest developing toward the tender but long finish that reveals its mineral core with each swirl. This is a classy Chevalier-Montrachet from Bouchard Père.

Enticing high-pitched aromas of orange zest, rose petal, lavender, acacia flower and white pepper. Pliant, ripe and sweet but with excellent mineral cut and an element of wild herbs giving the mid-palate a brisk, juicy quality. Finishes subtle, bright and long, with terrific acid lift (actually 4.2 grams per liter, which is at the high end for this 2013 collection) and a piquant note of white pepper.
