Bright, pale yellow with green highlights. Tight, high-pitched aromas of lime, menthol and mint, showing less in the way of oak than the Montmains. Concentrated, ripe and dense but not at all extreme, boasting a fine-grained texture and firm underlying acid spine to support its white peach and citrus flavors. Finishes a bit dry and clenched but with no shortage of lingering fruit.

The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu has a more fruit-driven bouquet compared to the Montmains, fresh pear and nectarine developing in the glass. It is well defined, although I discerned more precision with respect to the Montmains '13. The palate is crisp and fresh with very good weight in the mouth, fresh pear, green apple and white peach with plenty of roundness toward the finish. This is very fine, although the bottom line is that I prefer the tension on the Montmains. This would be a fine introduction to Benoît Droin's range of Chablis, but I think he produced better this year.

Very appetising nose with masses of fruit but also great pungent acidity and structure. Hint of lemon cough sweets. Perhaps just a little weak on the finish. (JR)

Lemon and milk, light spiciness and very well-aligned acidity – high but not spiky. (RH)
