The 2012 Beaune Vieilles Vignes comes from vines planted in 1926 from the south side of the appellation. Affected by hail, quantity was reduced by 50%. It has a lifted, very perfumed bouquet with redcurrant and crushed strawberries. The palate is medium-bodied with plump and rounded, lightly spiced red and black fruit. This is well-defined, packed full of flavor and comes highly recommended.

Noticeably dark purple colour. Concentration from the old vines, perhaps. Dense black cherry fruit, moderate oak and a savoury finish with semi-firm tannins – drinkable now, but with a dryness that invites ageing. Perhaps a bit austere – yet the concentration and deep colour seems modernist. An interesting juxtaposition! (RH)
