Tasting notes
From multiple November pickings that lasted until the 14th of that month, this displays a phenomenal combination of opulence and clarity, resulting in a wine of forceful intensity and enormous, almost thick richness, yet displaying delightful nuance and ample acidity. Iris, ginseng and white pepper accent an almost liqueur-like matrix of green herbal essences with luscious Persian melon and orange. The finish offers a layering of flavors that makes up in sheer persistence for anything it might lack in animation or energy vis-à-vis the corresponding Rotes Tor.

Super ripe, super rich, super fine and super elegant on the nose, the 2013 Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl is another (expensive) icon wine of the estate. Very rich, almost oily (at least viscous) and sweetish on the palate, this is a powerful and elegant though slightly saturating Veltliner. It will need some years to develop more freshness and transparency. Very baroque in style.
RS 3.5 g/l. Spectacularly rich nose. Very ample, intense and flattering. Smoked meat! Kerpow! Not flabby. Great structure. Amazing. (JR)
