Score 90/100 · Drink 2009-2017, Robert Parker, Apr 2009

Surprisingly soft and approachable with silky tannins, the 2006 Cornas Les Terrasses du Serre offers copious quantities of creme de cassis, blackberry, roasted herb, pepper, and licorice, full body, and a lush personality. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years. Proprietor Matthieu Barret is another member of Cornas’ younger generation of producers who have embraced the use of smaller barrels as well as more sanitary vinification techniques. The results are wines imbued with good purity, sweeter tannins, appellation typicity, and more approachable styles that retain 15 or more years of aging potential. Silly heavy bottle. Much more roasted, deep sweet ripe vanilla-edged dark fruit. But also quite perfumed with a touch of violets. Sort of sweaty sock taste at the very end. Thick and plenty of grip but tannins are ripe. Dry firm finish but still fresh.  (JH)
